BUMBAŠIREVIĆ Vladimir

Professor Vladimir Bumbaširević is Rector of the University of Belgrade since October 2012. He received his M.D., MSc, and Ph.D. degrees at the Faculty of Medicine University of Belgrade, where he has been full professor of histology and embryology since 1996. His research interest is in the field of histology and cell biology, and he has published more than 120 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and was principal investigator, or investigator in a number of research grants, and was invited speaker atmany national and international scientific congresses and symposia. He is co-author and editor of 3textbooks and 4 monographs and a chapter-author in 12 books and monographs. He was visiting associate professor, Fulbright Fellow, at the University of Illinois, Chicago (1987-1988). Professor Bumbaširević is active member various national and international scientific associations, and was for 10 years president of Serbian Society of Electron Microscopy. He is full member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2009.
He has extensive experience in university management: head of department, vice-dean, dean, and rector. He is president of the Conference of Universities of Serbia since 2012, Council member of the European University Association, member of the Executive Committee of the European Association for Doctoral Education in the biomedical field (ORPHEUS).Professor Bumbaširević is also a Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Confucius Institute at the University of Belgrade, and a member of the Steering Committee of the Tokyo Foundation.
He was coordinator of two Tempus projects, and has been a member of committees focusing on the reform of higher education.
