BYTYQI Fatmir

Fatmir Bytyqi is a distinguished economist and policymaker with extensive experience in economic governance, sustainable development, and regional cooperation. As a MP in the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, he actively engages in parliamentary discussions and legislative processes that influence the country’s economic trajectory, social policies, and European integration efforts. His work is focused on fostering an inclusive and forward-looking economic environment, ensuring that North Macedonia remains on the path of sustainable growth and regional cooperation.
Prior to his parliamentary role, Bytyqi served as the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Coordination of Economic Sectors, and Investments, where he led major strategic initiatives to strengthen North Macedonia’s economic resilience and long-term sustainability. He was instrumental in developing the National Development Strategy 2024-2044 (NDS)—a comprehensive 20-year framework aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth, regional cohesion, and green transformation, engaging over 5,000 stakeholders in one of the most inclusive policy processes in the country’s history. Additionally, he played a key role in shaping North Macedonia’s climate action framework, overseeing the National Work Program for the Green Climate Fund, which set sectoral priorities in energy, transport, agriculture, waste management, biodiversity, health, and forestry, reinforcing the country’s commitment to environmental sustainability. His leadership in investment strategies, innovation, and industrial growth positioned North Macedonia as an increasingly attractive destination for both domestic and foreign investors.
Throughout his career, Bytyqi has been actively involved in policy formulation and economic advisory roles, having served as a Special Advisor to the Prime Minister and a Senior Expert in strategic economic management. His experience includes working with national and international institutions to improve governance frameworks, develop financial strategies, and enhance investment climates. As an Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce for Northwestern Macedonia, he advocated for stronger public-private partnerships and regional trade facilitation, reinforcing economic integration within the Western Balkans.
Bytyqi’s expertise extends beyond national borders, having contributed to cross-border economic projects and regional development initiatives. His work with EU-funded projects on capacity building, performance auditing, and economic reforms has strengthened institutional capacities in North Macedonia and neighboring countries. His deep understanding of nearshoring strategies—particularly in light of geopolitical uncertainties—has positioned him as a key proponent of regional economic integration as a path toward long-term stability. He remains committed to fostering economic cooperation, advocating for open and transparent economic policies, and promoting sustainable growth models that benefit both North Macedonia and the wider Western Balkans region.
