MURPHY Timothy
General Counsel and Chief Franchise Officer, Mastercard
Tim Murphy is general counsel and chief franchise officer for Mastercard. In this capacity, he oversees legal affairs, public policy, corporate secretary and compliance. He is also responsible for franchise development and integrity, corporate security and privacy, global inclusion and the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth. Mr. Murphy is a member of the company’s Management Committee.
Prior to assuming this role, Mr. Murphy was chief product officer, where he was responsible for the management, development and commercialization of payments solutions, creating sustainable competitive advantage for Mastercard and its customers.
Throughout his tenure, Mr. Murphy has also served as president of the company’s U.S. region, executive vice president of customer business planning and analysis, and senior vice president and associate general counsel for Mastercard.
Before joining Mastercard in 2000, he was an associate in the New York and London offices of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, an international law firm.
Mr. Murphy is a member of the board of trustees for the National Urban League, the board of directors for the U.S.-Russia Business Council and the board of directors for the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship. Mr. Murphy also serves as chairman of the board of governors for Fairfield College Preparatory School.
He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School and magna cum laude from Amherst College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
