PATERSON Jamie
Expert, EXPO City Dubai
After starting a career in investment banking in London followed by some time in the oil industry, Jamie moved to Dubai to join KPMG in 2011 working on commercial strategy advisory and transaction services, subsequently leaving to join the EXPO 2020 Dubai delivery team in 2014.
He created the initial Expo visitor model, forecasting the visitor targets for the Expo and identifying key source markets and opportunities, as well as creating the strategies for revenue generation and visitation including ticketing, sponsorship, food & beverage licensing, and retail etc. These were developed into the business plans to provide the revenue model for the Expo 2020 Registration Document.
Jamie then became the Vice President of Corporate Finance and Commercial Partnerships, with a lead role in sponsor category identification, sales, contract negotiations and ongoing sponsor relationship management at Expo 2020 Dubai. This role included negotiating sponsorship agreements to maximise the value for the sponsor and the Expo, and being the relationship lead for the top premier tier of sponsors throughout the Expo event. Within the commercial workstream Jamie developed the department from a business plan to operational preparation, balancing the requirements of visitor experience with operational needs and revenue generation.
In addition to these tasks, Jamie also managed the pre-Expo and post-Expo Economic Impact Study produced by an independent third party. These reports highlighted the contribution of the Expo both to the country, but also specifically to key industries and SMEs.
Jamie now works for the successor entity to Expo 2020, Expo City Dubai, which has the task of converting the site from an event location to a new city at the heart of Dubai’s Southern expansion.
