Urs Schmid is the Ambassador of Switzerland to the Republic of Serbia and to Montenegro with residence in Belgrade.

In his capacity, Ambassador Schmid is representing one of Serbia’s largest bilateral donors with a cooperation program of roughly 20 Mio. Euro per year. Moreover, Switzerland and Serbia are currently celebrating 30 years of Swiss-Serbian bilateral cooperation. Priorities of this substantive engagement include strengthening the digitalization of local public administrations and the support for the provision of market-oriented skills development and thereby better training and job opportunities for the Serbian population.

Importantly, the Swiss economy ranks as the largest foreign direct investor in the first quarter of 2021 with a total amount of 261.6 Million Euros invested. In the last ten years, Swiss companies invested 1.32 billion Euros in Serbia, thereby creating roughly 12’000 jobs. Among them are digital champions who create innovative jobs in the increasingly important IT sector and thus contribute to dynamic and up-to-date economic relations between Switzerland and Serbia.
