Lazar Šestović is Senior Country Economist for Serbia.

Šestović joined the World Bank Country office for Serbia and Montenegro in 2002 as a research analyst, and in 2006 began working as an economist. Between 2009 and 2011, he was an economist in the World Bank Office in Brussels before returning to the Serbia office as country economist.

Šestović specializes in fiscal policy, intergovernmental fiscal relations, regional development, labor markets, mobility and migrations, trade policy and European Union affairs.

Most recently, he led the team that prepared the Serbia Country Economic Memorandum – The New Growth Agenda, which explores how Serbia can grow faster by increasing productivity. He contributed to several regional reports, including the Regular Economic Report on the Western Balkans and the report on the European growth model, with an analysis of labor mobility and migrations.

Šestović holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the Central European University in Hungary, a specialized degree in Economic Deregulation and Open Markets from the Cyprus International Institute of Management, and a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Belgrade’s School of Economics. He completed several executive education courses at Harvard University.

Occasionally, he is a guest lecturer at the Belgrade University’s School of Economics, the Institute of Economic Studies, and at Belgrade Open School. He has conducted trainings for members of the Serbian Parliament on poverty monitoring and IFIs, as well as to journalists on the basics of economics.
