Milena Trobozic Garfield is a film and theater producer. She is the founder and creative director of the West End productions in Serbia.

Although she started her career as an actress, soon she became more interested in creating and producing the theater repertoire. She challenged the theater scene in Belgrade in the late 80-s and early 90-s. and changed the way theater performances were produced, marketed and advertised. Her critically acclaimed productions of “Burn This” by Lanford Wilson, “Noises Off” by Michael Frayn, and “The Graduate” were the biggest national theater box office hits.

In the early 90-s Milena joined regional Saatchi & Saatchi advertising agency where she became regional PR director.  

Milena managed the regional art magazine, “New Moment “which was daring and different new voice in Eastern Europe .

After she left for the States, she produced Broadway in Belgrade, a 30-night run of the performance of The Graduate” introducing new model of theater production. It was the biggest hit and the most important theater event of the year.

Milena Garfield produced several films, including “White White World” which won over 30 international film festival awards and was the candidate for European Academy EFA Award in 2011. 

Her latest production, film “Stitches” won audience and official award at Berlin International film festival Panorama selection of 2019. It was in the selection for EFA Awards 2019. 

Both films were supported by Euro image and where European coproduction between Serbia, Germany and Sweden ( “ White White World “) and Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia and Slovenia (“Stitches”).

Her first book “This American Wife “ is the collection of her texts published in different media in the region.  In it she describes her life in America, as viewed from an outsider, talking about feminism, modern romance, public solitude, American art, culture and media.

She writes regular column about art management and creative industries for Media-Marketing and Art& Business, regional online magazines and often publishes her opinion columns in Serbian national media.

She has translated several novels and plays from Spanish and English. (“Love in The Times of Cholera”, “Dangerous Liaisons”, “House of Spirits”, “ The Graduate”, “ Detroit” , “Love Love Love “) among many others.

She co -created and translated to English Serbian play written by Snezana Gnjidic, Einstein’s Wife. The play had its world premiere and critically acclaimed run in Expatriots Theater in Washington DC in March 2020. 

Milena Garfield is the member of the Board of Directors of the  Serbian National Theater in Belgrade and of Belef, Belgrade summer art festival.

She is the author of the book “ Art is Our Business “, about art management and contemporary cultural practices.
